Stonewood Insurance Company Looks to Local University to
Fill Professional Positions
June 6, 2005, Raleigh, NC – Stonewood Insurance Company is pleased to
announce that two May graduates of the Richard S. Brantley Risk & Insurance
Center, Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina have accepted
positions with the company. Matt Whisenant accepted a position as Technical
Underwriting Assistant and began work on May 9, 2005, just two days after
graduation ceremonies. Lisa Glass joined the company on May 16, 2005 as a
Claims Adjuster Trainee. Additionally, a summer internship program has been
established at Stonewood to allow rising seniors in the insurance curriculum
an opportunity to experience company operations first hand. Mark Killius has
accepted the position this summer.
The Center provides its students with an essential curriculum through practical
and instructional insurance programs, and offers them resources and opportunities
to build their future in the insurance industry. Stonewood's Director of
Underwriting and Director of Claims attended Career Day at the University
earlier this year. "We believe Appalachian State University is a leader in
preparing students for careers in the insurance industry and their graduates
enter the workplace prepared with relevant knowledge for their insurance
careers," remarked Sallie Mercer, Director of Claims.
As a recent entrant into the insurance industry, but with an experienced
management team led by Ken Mitchell, Stonewood continues to serve North
Carolina's workers' compensation market with a commitment to providing superior
customer service. The company's strong desire to support the insurance industry
and their community led them to embrace the resources available through the
Richard S. Brantley Risk & Insurance Center.
On November 18, 2003, Stonewood entered the North Carolina marketplace with 15
employees. The company's growth has necessitated an increase in staffing to 27.
